White’s Corner Bait Shop Fishing Report – 24 HR live bait
By Joe Steck – Mankato Times
MADISON LAKE, MINN. — The fishing season is well on its way and reports are starting to come in. Now that the fishing bug has set in, it is time to hit the lakes and enjoy some great southern Minnesota fishing.
Many of you may have noticed a few BIG changes at White’s Corner Bait Shop in Madison Lake. First, Ryan installed a 24 hour bait box. This is a great addition for those who like to fish late at night, or early in the morning when his bait shop is closed.
“The bait machine has many of the basics including wax worms and night crawlers,” said White “On Thursday, Friday and Saturday it will be stocked with crappie minnows and leeches.”
This is a nice addition to the area for those who like to get out on the lake at different times and need bait.
Another change to White’s Corner Bait Shop is a new sign. It may not help catch fish, but the open sign now lights up so you can see when the shop is open from the road.
Where to catch the fish
The opener was great and a number of reports came in which will help the local anglers pick a few different spots to catch the species they are looking for. The weather cooled a little this past week and with the added rain, fish moved to deeper waters.
The fish are starting to make their way into the shallows and should be spawning. Although many love crappie, many of the larger crappie are females with eggs. It is suggested by many to release the large females so they can lay their eggs and continue to populate our lakes.
Lake Washington: There has been good walleye action on Lake Washington as well as some nice pan fish reports. Try fishing Bakers Bay and the shallows. Crappie minnows, leeches and wax worms are the preferred bait.
Madison Lake: Reports of good walleye and pan fish action on Madison. You have to work for your walleye, but people have been sending in good reports using minnows and leeches. Crappie and sunfish have been biting in the shallows and weed lines. There is a great fishing pier on Madison Lake as well as some areas at Bray Park and in the south east corner of the lake. Minnows, night crawlers and wax worms.
Duck Lake: You can walk around Duck Lake fishing and there is a nice beach. This lake almost always has a lot of action. It is a great place to bring kids and grandkids because they will catch a lot of sunfish and crappies. The fish will be small, but don’t let that hinder you from having a great day of fishing. Wax worms.
German Lake: The west shore line, weed lines and channel have been good areas to catch Crappies and Sunfish. There have been reports of good catches on the rock pile also. The fish are biting on crappie minnows and wax worms.
Remember to have fun and to be safe. Also, be sure to clean your boats and pull your boat plugs after each boat outing.
