ST CLAIR, MINN. — The St. Clair Cyclones softball team was defeated 8-3 by the Mountain Lake/Mountain Lake Christian Wolverines in St. Clair on Monday.
With the loss the Cyclones drop to 6-4 while the Wolverines improve to 8-2.
Danielle Boettcher, Abby Nicolai and Dani Lynch each had two hits for St. Clair while facing Signey Stoesz, a four year starter for Mountain Lake.
“We did a nice job being aggressive at the plate today with the girls hitting the ball hard, but unfortunately it was right at their players,” said Cyclones head coach Dave Makela.
Errors were the downfall for the Cyclones on Monday.
“We gave up six unearned runs which is something you can’t do and expect to win,” Coach Makela said “Anytime you give a team four outs in an inning you are in trouble. When you do that with a near top 10 team against an all-state pitcher that is tough to overcome.”
Coach Makela praised his pitchers.
“I thought Kate and Amy did a very good job on the mound today,” he said “We ask are pitchers to throw strikes and let our fielders make the plays.”
Side note: Katelyn Karels was named to the All-State team which and will play at Casewell Park in North Mankato on June 12th.
St. Clair will host Nicollet today (Tuesday) with a 4:30 scheduled start.
