MAPLETON, MINN. — The Maple River boys’ basketball team defeated Hayfield 67-44 Saturday in Mapleton to start the 2016-17 season.’

The Eagles led 30-26 at the half and took over the game in the second half using a tough defense and passing the ball to find the open shooter.

Cole Sohre led the Eagles with 21 points and Jeff Lewis chipped in 12 to lead the team in scoring.

“In the first half we didn’t play up to our expectations,” said Sohre “We lost our two top players from last year so we had to figure things out. We have a lot of people who can score on the team so passing the ball to find the open man is important.

“I thought we did a good job moving the ball and finding the open man. We also defended and rebounded well in stretches during the game.” Said Eagles head Coach Chad Ostermann
