Maple River Girls Win St. James Holiday Tournament
ST JAMES, MINN. — The Maple River high school girls’ basketball team defeated Madelia high school 57-53 to win the St. James Holiday basketball tournament. With the win, the Eagles improve to 3-4 on the season.
The Eagles will play Blooming Prairie on Friday, January 6 in an away conference game with a 7:15 pm scheduled start.
Maple River shot 31% making 21 of 67 shots while the defense was able to hold Madelia to 26% (20-76). The Eagles had a tough time at the free throw line, making 14 of 31shots.
Sophomore guard Madi Schirmer led the Eagles with 22 points, 4 steals, and 3 assists while pulling down 7 rebounds. Hannah Osdoba was the only other player for Maple River scoring double figures as she added 12 points along with 7 rebounds. Emma Severns lead the team with 10 rebounds.
Melodie DeVlaeminck (15), Lizzie Cooling (12), and Stef Sotelo (11) scored double figures for the Blackhawks with De Vlaeminick also leading the team with 9 rebounds.
