Mankato Autism Walk this Sunday, April 23 at River Hills Mall

MANKATO, MINN. – April is Autism Awareness month and the Southern Minnesota Autism Coalition is having its10th annual event to raise awareness and resources for autism WALKdo 10 will be held on Sunday,  April 23, 2017, 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. inside the River Hills Mall, 1810 Adams Street, Mankato.  

Walkers and pledgers are needed for the event which will also feature many family-friendly activities and organizations which offer information and services for those affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder.  

Activities include face painting, a cake walk, caricature drawings, rhythm music, bowling zone, sensory table, calming corner, Bingo, Southern Minnesota Children’s Museum, crafts, raffle and door prizes. 

No pre-registration is required and walkers are asked to bring donations the day of the event. All proceeds go to the Southern Minnesota Autism Coalition for community awareness events, speakers and other activities in the Region 9 area.   

Autism is a brain development disorder characterized by impaired social interaction and communication, and by restricted and repetitive behavior. These signs all begin before a child is three years old. Autism affects one in 68 children according to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control).
