Mankato Times

MANKATO, MINN. — On Tuesday (July 4), the Red, Hot & Boom 4th of July celebration will be held in Riverfront Park, 310 West Rock Street, and can be viewed from both sides of the river. This event is no cost and open to the public. Spectators can watch the fireworks from the bridge, which overlooks the river. The bridge will be closed from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

A 6:00 p.m. Bingo fundraiser kicks off evening activities.  Proceeds from the fundraiser will go to Mankato Symphony Orchestra performances.  The “Rockin’ 4th of July Concert” begins at 7:00 p.m. and features live music by City Mouse and the Mankato Symphony Orchestra. The fireworks show begins at 10:00 p.m. and is choreographed to music from Radio Mankato stations. Coolers are welcome. A reminder:  no glass containers, pets, grills or fireworks are to be brought into the event.

Evening festivities include a proclamation from Mayor Eric Anderson and the Mankato City Council dedicating a new public art piece in Riverfront Park “Lean Back,” a fireworks viewing platform and bench, funded through leftover community donations from the Community 4th of July Fireworks fund managed by Radio Mankato.  “Lean Back” abstractly depicts a fireworks celebration of light and bursts of color through powder-coated layers of steel for users to ‘lean back’ against the backrest to enjoy fireworks or simply relax.
