MANKATO, MINN. — Mankato police released the names of the six people hit by a vehicle driven by Juan Carlos Lamas, Jr. on Sunday morning in Mankato.

Alex Batson of Mankato and Yi Kai Chen of Mankato both were airlifted to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. The other victims are Kaylee Johnson of North Mankato, Donovan Hall of Robbinsdale, Caleb Clobes and Curtis Nash, both of Mankato.

Mankato police responded to the call after receiving a report that there was a hit-and-run at 1:50 am Sunday, September 10 in the parking lot in front of 104 Bunting Lane in the apartment complex known as the Quads.

After a preliminary investigation, the police say there was a party among some of the tenants in an apartment building that spilled out into the parking lot. A number of fights broke out and several guns were reported to have been drawn.

Sometime during the fights, Juan Carlos Lamas Jr. drove his vehicle into a group of people who were in the parking lot hitting the six victims. Mankato Public Safety Director Todd Millers said that the impact was so great that there were bone chips found in the parking lot from the victims and that the passenger front wheel of the vehicle was sheared off.

Juan Carlos Lamas Jr. fled the scene and was stopped just north of Beauford on Highway 22 by the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Department.

Police say evidence shows that Juan Carlos Lamas Jr. had been drinking and a blood sample was taken to determine his blood alcohol content.

Authorities say the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information or cell phone video of any of the related events is asked to contact Mankato police at 507-387-8700.
