Fallenstein Playground Fundraising Goal Achieved

Mankato Times

NORTH MANKATO, MINN. — The Fallenstein Playground Fundraising Team and the Miracle League of North Mankato announce that the $600,000 goal to build an inclusive playground in North Mankato has been met. Just two weeks after the groundbreaking ceremony for the Fallenstein Playground, a private donor stepped forward to provide the final $75,000 needed to meet the goal. In recent weeks, a surge of donations narrowed the fundraising gap to $75,000 and with this donation the playground is on track to be built in spring of 2018.

The Fallenstein Playground, named for Al and Erla Fallenstein is an inclusive, accessible playground. Inclusive playgrounds offer the chance for children of all abilities and ages to play side by side with their peers. The main feature of the playground is the surface- a rubberized, continuous surface that offers the opportunity for everyone to access the playground. The design for the Fallenstein Playground began a little over two years ago. The fundraising for the playground began in late spring of 2016. With the generous support of the Mankato Area Foundation providing the initial matching grant, momentum continued with the match being met in December of 2016.  Additional funds were raised over the past year through fundraising events, donations from businesses, service clubs, individuals, children and youth, and families as well as through grants, in-kind donations and contests.

Eric Sletten, Executive Director of the Miracle League and Fundraising Team Chair states that, “We are overwhelmed with the generosity of our community. Our team is thrilled to have reached the fundraising goal for the playground before the end of this year.  We look forward to building the playground in the spring of 2018. We want to thank everyone who supported the fundraising efforts for the playground. We are fortunate to live in communities that step forward and support projects such as the Fallenstein Playground. It will be a wonderful addition to our area.”
