Lake City downs Maple River boys in season opener
MAPLETON, MINN. — The Maple River High School boys’ basketball team lost to Lake City High School 71 – 42 on Saturday in Mapleton. With the loss the Eagles fall to 0-1 while the Tigers improve to 2-0.
Maple River will host Gopher Conference rival New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva High School on Tuesday, with a 7:15 pm scheduled start.
The Eagles opened up the 2017-18 against the 8th ranked Lake City Tigers in front of the home crowd. Maple River played the Tigers tough in the first half, going to the locker room down 25-31. Justin Caven and Tyler Mass led the Eagles in scoring during the half with 6 points, each draining two 3-pt shots.
The Tigers pulled away in the second half putting up 40 points while holding the Eagles to 17.
Ethan Sindelir led the Eagles in scoring with 11 points followed by Mason Sohre with 9. Sam Bennett led the team with 9 rebounds. The Eagles were 7-16 shooting free throws.
