Maple River girls down Medford 58-51

MAPLETON, MINN. — The Maple River Eagles girls’ basketball team defeated the Medford Tigers 58-51 in Gopher Conference action on Friday in Mapleton. With the win the Eagles improve to 2-0 while the Tigers fall to 0-2.

Madi Schirmer led the Eagles in scoring, putting up 22 points while Payton Berkner added 11 as the team shot a combined 25-54 (46%) on the night. Emma Kniefel led the Tigers with 19 points.

Maple River outrebounded Medford 33-31 but had trouble handling the ball, turning it over 17 times.

Maple River will take on conference foe New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva on the road Friday with a 7:15 scheduled start.
