MANKATO, MINN. — The 2017-18 Minnesota State Mankato Theatre & Dance Studio Season is ending on a unique note with a contemporary farce about an emotion-driven adventure.

Tilly (Martha Juliana Cubillos) contemplates her melancholic beauty accompanied by Jillian’s (Sarah Honerman) music as Joan (Delaney Rietveld) and Frances (Lydia Prior) fall further in love with her. Photo courtesy of MSU Theatre

“Melancholy Play,” by Sarah Ruhl, is about a character named Tilly who turns her melancholy into a “sexy thing,” and every stranger she meets falls in love with her. One day, inexplicably, Tilly becomes happy, and she wreaks havoc on the lives of her paramours.

The play runs 7:30 p.m. April 18-21 in Andreas Theatre, Performing Arts Center, Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Directed by Seth Honerman, tickets are $10 regular; $9 for seniors ages 65 and older, children under 16 and groups of 15 or more; and $8 for MSU students.
