Cougars Haley and Reyes qualify for state tournament
JORDAN, MINN. — Day two of the Section 2AAA boy’s golf tournament is in the books with Mankato East High School’s Carson Haley and Walker Reyes both qualifying for the Minnesota State Tournament which will be played June 12-13 at Bunker Hills.
Both golfers shot a combined 148 at the Par 72 Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan to qualify for the tournament. Haley shot a 73 on day one followed by a 75 and Reyes a 75 on day one and 73 today. Ben Hicks of Chanhassen was the two day medalist shooting a combined 141, followed by Gunnar Broin of Minnetonka (143) and Davis Johnson of Chaska (145).
Andrew Christiansen (152), Owen Bjork (152) and Aiden Brovold (153) performed well for the Scarlets but did not make the cut.
Waconia won the team competition shooting a combined 588 in the tournament, followed by Minnetonka (593), Chaska (596) and Eden Prairie (620).
Haley finished tied for second in last year’s class AAA tournament.
